Licensed Electricians in Fresno, CA

Most electrical projects in Fresno involve two outside parties: the City of Fresno, which permits and inspects the work, and PG&E, which owns the meter. Cosmic Comfort’s Fresno electricians work out of 497 W Bedford Ave, Suite 105, in north Fresno, and deal with both while they upgrade a breaker box, track down a dead circuit or hang a row of ceiling fans.

Breaker box and panel upgrades on PG&E power

An upgrade in Fresno usually runs in this order:

  1. Capacity check and free estimate. We look at what the house draws now and what you want to add.
  2. City of Fresno permit. We apply through Accela Citizen Access or at the city’s Building & Safety counter at 2600 Fresno Street, which offers same-day express permits for electrical work.
  3. PG&E application. The service change goes through PG&E’s Your Projects portal. PG&E assigns a Job Owner, who makes contact within five business days, and asks for the required documents within 35 calendar days.
  4. Installation and city inspection. Our electricians install the panel and the City of Fresno inspects it.
  5. Meter connection. Once the inspection passes, PG&E schedules the meter connection and the power comes back on.

For panel upgrades, PG&E says it covers the cost of replacing distribution transformers, metering equipment and underground distribution conductors. Trenching and permit costs stay with the customer.

“The Cosmic Comfort team helped me get my breaker box upgraded fast and efficiently. I thought it would take more than 3 months to schedule and finish but we got it done in 6 weeks. It would have been a lot sooner but PGE forced a reschedule.”

Where the new panel can go. PG&E’s checklist for residential meter panels includes an exterior wall that’s readily accessible, 36 inches of clear working space in front of the meter, no closer than 36 inches to a window, and at least 12 inches sideways from the gas meter. We plan the location around those rules before the permit goes in.

Sometimes there’s an alternative. PG&E allows eligible customers to install a meter socket adapter instead of upgrading the panel when they connect solar, battery storage or an EV charger. If your project might qualify, we’ll go over it at the estimate.

Fresno’s housing stock and its wiring

The median Fresno home was built in 1982. About 31% were built before 1970, and roughly 11% before 1950 (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2024 1-year estimates, tables B25034 and B25035). Kitchens and laundry rooms in those houses now carry dishwashers, microwaves and big refrigerators the original circuits weren’t planned for. That’s where many of our Fresno repair calls start.

“They were miracle workers! Two different techs from other companies did not know how to fix our issue, but Angel and Kevin got our electrical working again for our dishwasher.”
Stephanie W., Google review of our Fresno office, Sep 2026

Lighting, ceiling fans and motion lights

A good share of our Fresno work is lighting: bathroom fixtures, ceiling fans in bedrooms and living rooms, and motion-sensor lights around the outside of the house. See lighting upgrades and ceiling fan installation.

“Angel was our technician and he was very professional and did a great job installing light fixtures in our bathroom. Our first time reaching out to them, Angel was also our technician and he installed motion lights around our home.”
Nicole C., Google review of our Fresno office, Sep 2026
“Had ceiling fans installed. Angel was professional and friendly. Service was done reasonably fast.”
Brian A., Google review of our Fresno office, Oct 2026

EV charging at home

We install dedicated 240-volt circuits for Level 2 chargers in Fresno garages. If the panel is short on room, we’ll compare an upgrade with PG&E’s meter socket adapter option where it applies. More: EV charger installation.

Electrical repair in Fresno

Outlet repair

Outlets that are dead, loose, scorched or only work sometimes, inside or out. That includes 220/240-volt outlets for dryers and ranges, and weatherproof boxes on patios.

“Angel and Kevin came to fix my outlet . They were very helpful and I was happy with their work.”
Evelyn R., Google review of our Fresno office, Jul 2026
“Angel stayed a long time to check out electrical boxes outside on my patio! He came to check my 220 outlet!”
Debra S., Google review of our Fresno office, Jul 2026

Switch repair

Switches that do nothing, control the wrong light or buzz when you touch them. A bad switch and a bad outlet often trace back to the same loose connection, so we check both.

“Angel was here to see what was wrong with my outlets and switches. He did a good job finding out what the problem was.”
Bella K., Google review of our Fresno office, Sep 2026

Breaker repair

Breakers that trip when the AC starts on a hot afternoon, won’t reset or run warm. We find out whether it’s the breaker, the wiring or the load. If the panel is the problem, see the PG&E upgrade steps above.

Wiring repair

Circuits that stopped working for no clear reason, appliance circuits that keep failing, and damaged or overloaded wiring. Diagnosis comes first, and you get the explanation before any work starts.

“Our technician carefully diagnosed the issue, explained the solution in a way that was easy to understand, and completed the electrical work quickly and safely. Best of all, he left the work area completely clean and tidy.”
Juliana C., Google review of our Fresno office, Sep 2026
